Members of Brotherly Love got to walk down the red carpet as attendees of a movie premier of documentary called “Thugs”. “Thugs” is about the criminalization of Black youth is a documentary exploring the control of Black people through racially profiled arrests and incarceration, essentially modern-day slavery, or the “New Jim Crow”, and the role it plays on black youth across the country.
The documentary features Myon Burrell’s story, a man falsely accused of murder at 16 years old and imprisoned for 18 years in Minnesota. This documentary aims to be impactful and spread awareness of racial injustice in the community.
The event took place on Friday, July 15th at the Capri Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was sponsored by MN Freedom Fund and Wayfinder Foundation. The event included a Red Carpet walk and reception, the film makers introduction, the film screening and a panel discusses of the film.

MINNEAPOLIS — A recent Benilde-St. Margaret High School grad is on a mission to change the future for Black youth. Emani Labon, with the help of independent filmmaker Taylour Alexandria, has spent nearly the last year examining the troubling “school to prison” pipeline and how Black youth are disproportionately treated and criminalized compared to their white counterparts.
