An interesting fact about myself is that I made my first trip to Egypt at seven years old and at the age of 8, I published my first book, My First Trip to Africa.
Bio
Atlantis Browder is a writer, lecturer, historian, educator, and educational consultant. She was born and raised in the DC Metropolitan area and is a graduate of Bowie State University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in History and Government.
Atlantis is the co-author of three children’s books, My First Trip to Africa (1991), Africa On My Mind (1995), and Reflections of My First Trip to Africa (2020). Since the age of 8, Atlantis has traveled the U.S. and the world to share her experiences and teach youth and adults about African and American history.
For nearly two decades, Atlantis worked as a consultant for the Children’s Defense Fund’s Freedom School Program and has trained thousands of elementary school, high school, and college students around the country in the areas of reading enrichment, curriculum delivery, team building, leadership development, and social action. She also worked as an administrator for summer and after-school programs serving hundreds of youth in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Mississippi, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Between 2007 and 2017, Atlantis also worked as a middle school and high school educator in the District of Columbia.
Atlantis is currently serving as the National Director for IKG’s Cultural Imperative Program, the Vice President of the IKG Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., and the Assistant Archaeological Mission Director for the ASA Restoration Project.
Since 2019, Atlantis has consulted with ABEN as the Program Development Director. Her most notable projects include the development of the ABEN STEM Initiative (ASI) curriculum and activity guides for ABEN’s virtual trips to Africa.
