Members of Racial Justice NOW! Project, Brotherly Love, attended a Black History program in Baltimore, Maryland at the Oliver Community Center gymnasium hosted by Baltimore Brothers, Inc. The event was a beautiful display of love and respect for the youth attendees.
Youth walked into a gymnasium with white linen covered tables, similar to what you would see in a high class restaurant. Each chair was filled with gifts including backpacks, t-shirts, hooded sweat shirts, school supplies and more. Sounds of modern day positive hip hop music filled the air as a DJ played music from the beginning to the end. Parents, community members, local politicians, and school officials came out to support and be a part of the spirit filled gathering.
Keynote speakers from the Baltimore religious community delivered a positive message to the youth, highlighting the rich history of African Americans, our past and current struggles, our many victories, and the ability that youth have to overcome challenges.
Youth enjoyed a healthy meal of fish or chicken, vegetables, and salad while listening to the rhythms of some of their favorite songs. When the event was over the young men played basketball, threw around the football, and had a chance to dialogue with the many community members that came out in support.
