Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland has formed a Safety and Security and Student Well-being Advisory Group and RJN! was identified as an organization who has some interest in this topic and could provide valuable input. This advisory group requested RJN!’s perspective and expertise. This advisory committee is an immediate strategy as part of the road map to the MCPS Safety and Well-being Framework.
RJN!’s contribution was critical to keeping students, staff, and families safe and to be sure that our community’s best interest was represented. RJN! offered input on and gave recommendations to address concerns for safety and well-being, how to implement short-term strategies that include evaluating and examining practices, policies and procedures that directly impact student safety and well-being, and also how to establish long-term strategies that include ongoing examination of the effectiveness of the strategies in place and implementation for the following school years.
RJN! continues to work with the MCPS Office of District Operations and members of the Superintendent’s cabinet to discuss restorative justice, current events, current MCPS statistics on suspensions and expulsions, and police presence in schools.
