After the November 2017 elections, Dayton, Ohio particularly West Dayton received a trio of bad news reports. The small Midwest city received news of Aldi’s grocery store closing in a known food desert, the closing of a large hospital, Good Samaritan, a long-time staple of health care in the community that also implemented the Phoenix Neighborhood Project, and the possibility of nine schools being closed due to under enrollment.  Dedicated to racial equality in education RJN! pulled out all stops to keeps schools open in West Dayton aka “Black” Dayton. RJN! held parent meetings, rallied at school board meetings and implemented a publicity campaign supported by the Advancement Project.

RJN! and the genocidal situation in West Dayton made national news and was reported by the Real News Network, based in Baltimore, Maryland. The campaign to fight off school closures was successful, but the fight continues.
