RJN! Executive Director was invited in March to talk to Fort Lewis College students about the School to Prison Pipeline and Culturally Relevant Curriculum. Fort Lewis College, located in Durango Colorado, brought RJN! into the classroom through video conferencing. The opportunity came about because of RJN!’s national network and school to prison pipeline work with the Dignity in Schools Campaign.

With the college’s large Native American and Latino population, H.A. Jabar was able to share his experience from attending a youth organizing conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, pointing out the relevance to their community in the organization’s Culturally Relevant Curriculum Toolkit. The toolkit addresses the cultures of non- Europeans (including Native Americans and Latinos) and assists educators in delivering instruction that students can connect to and associate with. The lecture was about an hour, followed by questions and answers.
