In every classroom across the nation, children receive a European centered education and the picture above is just one example. This picture is from our son’s 4th grade McGraw-Hill textbook. Our son’s class is made up of all Black children- the opposite of the above picture.
So what does the above picture express to the class? Do people in communities other that European make a difference? Do people in our non-European families make a difference?
This simple picture is a small window into how education trains children to feel inferior and whites to be superior. We need curriculum change in our schools and we need it NOW!
